Free Estimate: (410) 212-8084Every failed driveway started as a driveway with a crack nobody dealt with. A crack is an open door. Rain runs through it, soaks the stone base, and sits there. In winter it freezes and pushes the asphalt apart. In spring the soft base flexes under your tires and the crack becomes three cracks. A few years later you have a pothole.
Crack filling stops that chain at the first link. We clean the crack out so the material can bond, removing dirt, weeds, and loose debris. Then we fill it with hot-applied rubberized sealant, which stays flexible so it moves with the pavement through hot summers and cold snaps instead of popping back out.
It is fast, it is inexpensive compared with any other asphalt work, and it has the biggest payoff per dollar of anything we do. The best time is late summer into fall, before the freeze and thaw season starts. It pairs naturally with sealcoating: fill the cracks first, then seal the whole surface.
One honest caveat. Crack filling works on individual cracks. If your driveway has tight, interconnected alligator cracking, that is base failure, and no amount of sealant will fix it. We will tell you which one you have.

How wide does a crack need to be before it should be filled?
Roughly a quarter inch or wider is worth filling. Hairline cracks are typically handled by sealcoating. Anything wider than about an inch usually needs a patch-style repair instead.
How long does crack filler last?
Hot rubberized sealant generally holds for several years, depending on how much the crack moves and how much traffic crosses it. Expect to touch up some cracks over time. That is normal.
Should I fill cracks before sealcoating?
Always. Sealcoat is a surface coating, not a crack filler. It will bridge hairlines but will not seal an open crack. Fill first, then seal.
