Free Estimate: (410) 212-8084Not every driveway problem needs a new driveway. A pothole, a sunken tire track, a broken edge, or a trench left by a utility crew can be repaired, and a good repair can buy a healthy driveway many more years.
The key word is good. Throwing cold patch in a hole and tamping it with a shovel is a temporary fix at best. Potholes form because water got under the asphalt and the base gave way. If you do not fix what is underneath, the hole comes back, usually bigger.
South State Paving repairs asphalt the way it should be done. We saw-cut a clean, square edge around the damaged area, well back into solid pavement. We remove the failed asphalt and dig out any soft or wet base. New stone goes in and gets compacted. Then we place hot-mix asphalt, compact it, and seal the joint so water cannot work its way back in.

Will a patch match the rest of my driveway?
No, and anyone who says otherwise is selling. New asphalt is black and old asphalt is gray. The patch will be visible. Sealcoating the whole driveway afterward evens out the color considerably.
What causes potholes in the first place?
Water. It gets in through cracks, softens the base, and in winter it freezes and expands. Traffic then breaks the unsupported asphalt. Fixing cracks early is the cheapest pothole prevention there is.
Can you repair asphalt in cold weather?
Often, yes. We work through the winter when conditions allow hot-mix asphalt to be placed and compacted properly. For true emergencies in deep cold, a temporary repair can hold until a permanent one is possible.
How much does asphalt repair cost?
It depends on square footage, the condition of the base underneath, how much drainage or grading the lot needs, material thickness, and how easily equipment can get in. We do not quote off a phone call or a satellite photo. We walk the property, measure it, and hand you a free written estimate that spells out exactly what is included.
