Free Estimate: (410) 212-8084Resurfacing, also called an overlay, means paving a new layer of hot-mix asphalt over your existing driveway. Done on the right driveway, it gives you a surface that looks and drives like new for noticeably less work than a full tear-out. Done on the wrong driveway, it is money thrown on the ground.
The difference is the base. If your driveway is faded, rough, and has some cracks, but it is still flat, still firm, and still drains, the structure underneath is fine and an overlay makes sense. If it has tight alligator cracking, sunken areas, or soft spots, those problems come from below, and they will come right back up through new asphalt within a couple of seasons.
When we resurface, we do not just show up and pave. Failed spots get cut out and patched to full depth first. Cracks are addressed. Where the new surface meets the garage, the sidewalk, or the street, we mill or grind the old asphalt down so the new layer finishes flush instead of leaving a lip to trip over or a dam that traps water. Then we tack the surface so the new asphalt bonds, pave, and roll.
We will tell you honestly which side of the line your driveway falls on. If an overlay will last, we will recommend it. If it will not, we will show you where the base is failing and why a replacement is the better use of your money.

How long does an asphalt overlay last?
On a sound base with repairs done first, an overlay commonly lasts 10 to 15 years. Its life depends almost entirely on the condition of what is under it, which is why we inspect before we recommend it.
Will the old cracks come back through?
Cracks from a moving or failed base will reflect through a new surface eventually. That is why we cut out and rebuild bad areas before overlaying, and why we steer you to replacement when the damage is widespread.
Will resurfacing raise my driveway height?
Yes, by the thickness of the new layer. We grind down the transitions at garages, walks, and the street so everything meets flush and water still drains the right way.
How much does driveway resurfacing cost?
It depends on square footage, the condition of the base underneath, how much drainage or grading the lot needs, material thickness, and how easily equipment can get in.
